When opening a new Word 2010 template, you may want to display a set of custom templates instead of the ones that appear in the File > New > Available Templates pane. It’s relatively easy to hide Word’s sample and default templates, you just need to change a couple of Registry keys.
Hide MS Office 2010 sample templates
There’s a Registry key that when renamed will hide all available sample templates in all MS Office apps. In the Registry on your computer, find the following key:
- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTInstallerComponents
8F622368F04F7B849A7B2021EE668F21
Rename it to something like:
- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTInstallerComponents
NOT-8F622368F04F7B849A7B2021EE668F21
This will remove the links in the File > New menu to the sample templates that come with MS Office. Refer to image below:

Hide office.com online templates
To remove the option to download Office.com templates from the File > New menu, find the following Registry key:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice14.0CommonInternet
- Change the UseOnlineContent value to “0” (zero), so it looks like the image below:

Now all of the built-in and online templates will be hidden from view, clearing the way to replace them with your own.
