Sydney marketing agency, Make It Happen, supplied the InDesign mockup for this Word bid template. The template was part of a Word and PowerPoint template suite we created for their client ASG.

While the design was relatively straightforward to replicate in Word, ASG requested that the bid template needed two covers and two kinds of section pages that may or may not be used in any given document. They also wanted A3 page inserts.

Word does not support master pages like InDesign where you can easily place a different layout in the body of the document. You can, of course, have different page layouts in Word, but this requires the use of section breaks. In our experience, most clients want their Word templates to be as easy to use as possible. Section breaks can be tricky for users with zero-to-minimal Word skills.

The easiest solution to the multiple cover request was to include a full-page graphic with text that users copied to the appropriate document location. (Creating building blocks was not an option in this instance.)
